Martin MacNeill was hospitalized after being found attempting suicide in jail. He is expected to be returned to the jail.
***** UPDATE ***** As part of normal hygiene in the Utah County Jail inmates who want to shave are given a disposable shaving razor. They have access to this shaving razor for about 15 minutes. On December 5, 2013, Martin Joseph MacNeill was issued a shaving razor to use. When Deputies returned they found that MacNeill had dismantled the razor and used the blade to cut his leg and then cut his femoral artery. It was then that Deputies intervened and MacNeill was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center by ambulance. Doctors told Sheriff's Office personnel that MacNeill will need to remain hospitalized for the remainder of today, and could need to remain in the hospital for 2-3 more days. Still, after being treated at the hospital he is expected to recover from his injuries.
On December 5, 2013, at about 5:30 PM, Deputies at the Utah County Jail discovered Martin Joseph MacNeill as he attempted to commit suicide. Those Deputies intervened and MacNeill was taken by ambulance to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center where he was hospitalized overnight. While hospitalized MacNeill was under guard and it is expected he will be released from the hospital and returned to the Utah County Jail sometime today.
