Multiple arrests made at Easter Weekend administrative checkpoint.
The Utah County Sheriff's Office conducted an administrative checkpoint on Friday, April 14, 2017 on US Highway 6 at mile marker 147, near Elberta in Utah County. The checkpoint began operation at 2:30 PM and was shut down at 11:30 PM that night. During the 9 hours of operation approximately 400 cars came through the checkpoint. 3 people were arrested for DUI and the vehicles they were driving were impounded. Additionally there were 4 alcohol arrests and 21 misdemeanor arrests, most of them for drug or drug paraphernalia possession. One of the driver's who was arrested for DUI was also arrested for 3rd degree felony possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
Volume of traffic this year was down significantly. Typically there will be in excess of 1,000 cars pass through the checkpoint. Despite the lower numbers, the effort had a significant impact on public safety for people traveling to enjoy the Easter weekend.
