The Peaks Ice Arena has been subsidized jointly by Utah County and Provo for years with Provo and Utah County each paying 50 percent of the operating and personnel costs. On March 23, the County sent Provo City a letter indicating its intention to terminate the contract between the two entities. The letter outlined a 180-day notice of termination of the contract.

Since that letter was sent there were a number of rumors and misunderstandings circulating throughout the county which Utah County officials addressed. Officials also explained why the letter was sent and what the process may be moving forward.
